Fiona Mason – Biography

Fiona (Fi) Mason – Co-Director and tutor (music business, yoga for performance)

Fiona Mason is an independent creative producer, manager, agent and arts consultant. She has been working in the creative industries for the past 16 years in a career spanning theatre, contemporary dance and music.

After working in touring theatre, venue based and arts development settings Fiona began working independently in 2005 and since then has produced the work of a variety of world-class contemporary artists and delivers business consultancy, artist development, project management and fundraising services to the creative industries across art-forms. Fiona has personally raised over £4.5 million in funding for artists and arts organisations she’s been involved with.

 

In 2007 she established SEGUE Productions as a vehicle for developing, producing and presenting an eclectic mix of cross art-form music-led projects. Projects and productions include Songs from a Hotel Bedroom (2010 – co-commissioned by ROH2 the Royal Opera House and co-produced with the New Wolsey Theatre and Watford Palace Theatre), Adriano Adewale: Sound Journey (2009, in association with the Lakeside Theatre, University of Essex); Festival Brasileiro (co-produced with UECCLA and the Lakeside Theatre, University of Essex); Jazz at the Lakeside (a regular programme of cutting-edge jazz at the Lakeside Theatre) and independent label SEGUE Records has released Sementes (Adriano Adewale Group 2008).

In 2010 Fiona was appointed Director of SOUNDEXCHANGE the independent music development organisation for Essex, which exists to nurture a coherent music infrastructure for the county by supporting collaboration, communication and networking across organisations, artists and communities.

She is also a non-executive director of Essex based dance development agency DanceDigital.

A graduate of the University of Essex, Fiona holds an MA in Continental Philosophy and is also a qualified Yoga instructor. She enjoys singing and playing music, growing vegetables, sea-kayaking, walking, cycling, running and BBQ-ing!

Fiona believes passionately that music changes lives for the better and her personal philosophy is that we achieve personal empowerment and fulfilment best  through collaboration. She is looking forward to sharing her experience and knowledge with all of those taking part in Music Works.
